KUCHING: Villagers of Kampung Trombol and Kampung Nyabut near Telaga Air are happy that they will finally get clean water through the implementation of the Rural Water Supply Project (BALB) Reticulation System Zone 1 for the two villages.
The RM4.7 million project, which was approved in 2019, is now underway since July this year thanks to the efforts of the Sarawak government as well as federal government.
Elated residents from both villagers expressed their gratitude to the government for making the project a reality as they can wait to enjoy clean water supply at home.
New Sarawak Tribune met with the villagers to have their views on the project and their expectations on future development.
Here are some of their views on the issue.
SAPUAN OYA, 66
Kampung Trombol village chief
Water supply is a basic need that is being used daily, therefore this project is very important to the villagers. We are grateful that this village will get clean water supply soon. We also hope that the government will upgrade the roads near the village as it is feared that it could cause an accident to road users.

This project has been approved long ago and finally it is underway, so this is a positive thing. We hope that it can be completed without any hitches and is done fast so that we can use and enjoy the water supply that we have waited for a long time.
HIPNI JAAFAR, 54
Kampung Nyabut villager
The project is expected to be completed next year, so I am happy with that. It has been a long time and we will finally have clean water at our home. The concern of all parties and agencies involved will definitely benefit the villagers here.
SALBIAH ABDUL RAUB, 49
Kampung Nyabut villager
The water supply problem here has been happening for a long time. We only depend on the rainwater reservoir and the water supply sent by lorries. When this project is completed, the daily activities of the community will definitely become easier and smoother.
