KUCHING: Kampung Trombol and Kampung Nyabut will get clean water supply by the second quarter of next year.

The implementation of the Rural Water Supply Project (BALB) Reticulation System Zone 1 for both suburban villages started in July this year and will take up to 11 months to complete.

Deputy Minister of Utilities and Telecommunications (Utilities) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said this project will end the water supply problem in both villages.

“This project is expected to last 44 weeks with the installation of various pipe sizes along a 11.2 kilometer stretch.

“The pipes will channel clean water supply to all houses in both villages and its surrounding areas involved,” he said while officiating the BALB project at Kampung Trombol yesterday (Aug 24).

He noted that water is a basic human need and, therefore, this resource is expected to facilitate all the villagers who have been waiting for a long time now.

He added that this effort is a collaboration between the Sarawak and the federal governments so that basic needs can be distributed to every home.

In addition, through this project, it is believed that settlements in the targeted area can also receive clean water supply.

“Through the ministry, we aim for clean water supply to reach every household in Sarawak by 2025.

“Not only water supply, but also basic needs such as electricity will be brought in to facilitate the activities of the local community,” he said.

Abdul Rahman commented that the RM4.7 million project is fully funded by the federal government and implemented by the Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB).

“In addition to solving the water supply problem in the villages, it can also bridge the gap between urban and rural residents so that they can enjoy this basic facility together,” he said.

Present at the ceremony were Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) Chairman Lo Khere Chiang, JBALB Senior Officer representing JBALB Director Lau Chong Choon, Kampung Trombol village chief Sapuan Oya and others.
