ENGKILILI: People in this Iban majority area must not be divided again in favour of the opposition.
Instead they should be mature and smart to choose the right representatives, said Batang Ai assemblyman Datuk Malcolm Mussen Lamoh.
Towards this end he said the fact that Engkilili is still underdeveloped is due to the people making mistakes when fulfilling their responsibilities to elect leaders.
“The political history in this area is really unique as it is the birthplace of two Sarawak deputy ministers.
“But look at what is happening here,” he said at the Sri Aman Sarawakku Sayang programme at the Multipurpose Hall, on Sunday.
With Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) winning in the 12th state election last year, Malcolm said most Sarawakians began to understand the role of GPS in fighting for Sarawak’s rights, especially in relation to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
“It’s better that we are in a big stable boat compared to a small boat that has no direction.
“Look at what the people’s representative says and what he can do. If the people’s representative is not in government, how can you follow him?,” he asked.
In his speech, Malcolm also requested that the Sarawak government help reconstruct the Multi-Purpose Hall to make it easier for local residents to carry out community activities.
