SIBU: Flood mitigation project at Kampung UsahaJaya Baru, Jalan Sentosa, Salim is expected to begin in the second half of this year.
Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng Jin Ek hoped the project would put an end to the flash flood issue in the area.
“The tendering process has been done. Now we are waiting for DID (Department of Irrigation and Drainage) to choose the contractor for this project. I hope this project can start as soon as possible,” he said.
Chieng said this in his speech during a brief ceremony of handing over the kurma (dates) to Masjid Al-Muhajirin and Masjid Al Ansar here today.
Meanwhile, on the mosque, Chieng pledged to allocate a Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) grant for the maintenance of the mosque annually.
“Regarding the RTP project for this area, I allocated RM300,000 last year for the road upgrading work and another RM300,000 for the maintenance of the drains.
“I have the allocation; however I need the cooperation of the implementing agency such as Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) and DID as well as the residents to ensure all the projects planned can run smoothly,” he said.
Chieng wished all the Muslim community in the area a happy Ramadan and hoped that Sarawakians would continue their spirit of supporting each other despite being a multi-religion state.
