LUNDU: Villages in Opar constituency will receive water tanks provided by the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government to store clean water for their daily use.
Assistant Minister of Welfare and Community Wellbeing Datuk Francis Harden Hollis said the water tanks would greatly benefit the rural villagers to store clean water especially during drought.
Harden officiated at a handover ceremony of the water tanks to 56 head of households in Kampung Bokah here today.
He said a total of 1,054 households in the Opar constituency would receive the water tanks to be delivered by contractors soon.
He reminded the villagers to stand firmly behind the GPS state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg to ensure continued development progress and racial harmony.
He noted that Opar constituents were suffering from loss of development opportunities due to their elected representative being in the opposition.
“For Opar constituency, the people suffer losses because they are not receiving the RM5 million RTP allocations, RM2 million MRP and RM1 million for the Residential Home Improvement Assistance because the allocations are channelled by the GPS government through its elected representatives.
“The ruling government does not channel allocations to the opposition because in the Opar area, its elected representative is from the opposition,” Harden said.
Meanwhile, Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Opar branch chairman, Niponi Undek said the water tanks were supplied to applicants from among the head of households in a village.
“Use the tank as best you can. This is a temporary measure to alleviate the burden of the people when facing water supply issues before long-term solutions are implemented,” Niponi added.
