KUCHING: Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s visit to Sarawak on the 1st and 2nd April would be a good opportunity for him to learn first-hand how the state is coping in its fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, said Datuk Sim Kiang Chiok.

“It is timely for him to assess our readiness for the lifting of the Emergency Ordinance (EO) as he has also announced our country’s vaccination plan against the virus,” said the Sarawak Housing and Real Estate Developers Association (Sheda) Kuching branch chairman.

He believed that Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah had certainly made the right choice in appointing Muhyiddin as prime minister.

“Muhyiddin has been successful in ensuring that our lives and livelihood are protected over the past one year in our war against the pandemic,” he said today.

He pointed out that the prime minister had procured vaccines for the people to be inoculated and to achieve herd immunity by the end of this year.

“He has given the greatest hope to all Malaysians that they will be safe from the virus and we can restore our old normal soon.

“He has set our country’s focus on our fight against the pandemic first while protecting our lives and livelihood. He has chosen the right method to fight the pandemic by using the right experts’ and scientists’ advice,” he said, adding that assistance had also been extended during this difficult time.

Sim hoped Muhyiddin would assist Sarawak to achieve its vaccination target of August this year by increasing the supply of vaccines to the state and helping Sarawak to purchase directly from vaccine-producing countries rather than through Kuala Lumpur.

“I hope he will restore all our autonomous rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) that have been eroded, and even allow devolution in the running of our state.

“I hope he will help Sarawak to be as developed as Malaya, especially in infrastructure, business opportunities, education, and health in the shortest time possible.”
