BINTULU: The visiting culture in conjunction with the celebrations of the multi-racial community in Sarawak is crucial in fostering a spirit of unity.
Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said the concept of unity in diversity goes well with the Malaysia Madani concept introduced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
“Hence, the practice of visiting, regardless of race and religion should be maintained,” the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) quoted him as saying in a report.
Dr Sim was speaking to the press while visiting several local Chinese community leaders, in conjunction with the Chinese New Year (CNY) celebration here on Thursday (Jan 26).
Joining Dr Sim during the visit was also his wife, Datin Seri Enn Ong Siok Ean.
The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) president also said that Sarawakians from different ethnic and religious backgrounds could further strengthen ties with one another, through visiting each other’s homes during various festivities.
Meanwhile, among those that Dr Sim had visited was the Bintulu Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry permanent president and Dayabaru Sdn Bhd chairman Datuk William Ting Choon Hua, at his residence located in Chin Lee Garden.
This was followed by a visit to Destiny Group chief executive officer (CEO) Patrick Lau Hieng Ung at Sanctuary Villa and the Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Huazong) honorary secretary Datuk Dr Wong Aik Loung at Taman Bintulu.
Dr Sim, who is also the Public Health, Housing and Local Government Minister and his wife then continued their CNY visits to the homes of SUPP Bintulu advisor Datuk Ting Ching Lee at Tanjung Batu and Bintulu Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry president Yek Siew Liong at Taman Hock Lee.
Also accompanying the Deputy Premier was Tanjong Batu assemblyman Johnny Pang Leong Ming, Bintulu resident Nyurak Keti and senior government officials.
