SIBU: The Village Transformation Program (VTP) participants can become important drivers of development in their areas, according to director of the State Implementation Monitoring Unit (SIMU) Felicia Tan.
She said that they can play their role as ambassadors by sharing the knowledge they have gained with residents in longhouses and traditional villages.
Tan said this during the closing ceremony of VTP Series 3/2023 for Kapit Division today (July 14).
She encouraged them to serve as educators when they return home, sharing their newfound knowledge with the residents in their respective areas.
According to her, in Kapit alone, 18 longhouses are taking part in the programme, with two or three participants representing each longhouse.
The main goal of the VTP is to enhance the socio-economic status and improve living standards in traditional villages and longhouses.
Tan explained that some of these longhouses are considered traditional, and the aim is to make them more competitive and prevent them from falling behind other longhouses.
The Series 3 VTP offered two courses: pastry and bakery production, and fertigation agricultural technology.
A total of 70 participants joined the programme, which was organised by SIMU in collaboration with Sarawak Technical Excellence Centre (CENTEXS) and the Kapit Resident Office.
