KUCHING: Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) coaching director, Abdul Wahet Uji has slammed the whim action of some quarters in throwing unpleasant view to Sarawak head coach, David Usop recently in running the team at the moment.

It was due to the current poor position of the Sarawak in the Super League table.

Sarawak are now sit in the 11th place with only eight points after 10 matches.

But according to Wahet, David must be remembered as the one who served as a ‘hero’ and ‘saved’ Sarawak when they were almost being relegated to the Premier League under the leadership of two previous experienced coaches Robert Alberts and Datuk K. Rajagopal.

“During Robert Alberts, he has indiscriminately took players and more in accord with Peninsular Malaysia as well as imported players with much less quality compared to local players,” he said.

Similarly, when Sarawak were led by the former national coach Datuk K. Rajagopal, he was also using the same approach as Alberts.

“Ultimately, we (Sarawak) almost fall to the second tier (Premier League) before David Usop is mandated to take over the important task,” said Wahet.

Wahet pointed out that the approach used by Alberts and Rajagopal just wasting the FAS’ money by taking less prominent imported players but, with much higher wages.

He further added that the decision of FAS by trusting David Usop in driving the Sarawak squad for this season were right, considering the records shown by him.

Regarding the selection of players who played in Sarawak this season, Wahet stressed, the approach used by David Usop was very accurate.

“He is more into fielding the local players in line with the wishes of the late former Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem who wanted 80 per cent of the local players in the team this season,” said Wahet.

Meanwhile, regarding the set of imported players belonging to the Sarawak squad at the moment, Wahet informed that so far, nothing much can be done by FAS, corresponding to their funds, in comparison to most other teams which were financially stable and able to take better players with higher wages.
