KUCHING: Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) will immediately revert to the original programming for WaiFM.
According to a statement by Saratok MP Ali Biju on Friday (Aug 14), he had received a letter from Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah, who informed Ali that he had instructed RTM to carry out the said action immediately.
“The minister acknowledged receipt of my letter dated yesterday (Thursday) regarding the urgent issue of reprogramming at WaiFM and referred to our productive discussion,” said Ali, who is also Deputy Energy and Natural Resources Minister.
“I am very thankful to the minister for recognising our issues and taking swift and decisive action to resolve the matter immediately.”
He said he had been informed that WaiFM’s original programming would be restored as of Friday (Aug 14), adding that this was good news for listeners, especially those living in the interior of Sarawak.
“I will continue to do my best to bridge Sarawak issues with the federal government in my capacity as deputy minister at the federal level under the premiership of Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.”
On Thursday (Aug 13), Ali presented Saifuddin a letter of complaint regarding the recent changes made to RTM Sarawak’s Iban programmes, which had resulted in a disruption in flow of vital news and information to Ibans throughout Sarawak.
He said Iban radio programmes were very important as radio was still the key mode for news and information for many Ibans residing in Sarawak’s interior.
