KUCHING: Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah hopes that “ghost smoke” candies would not reach Sarawak.
“This is under the jurisdiction of the Health Ministry, so we will wait for the outcome of their investigation,” she told reporters after officiating at Women Leadership Training Programme at Penview Hotel here yesterday.
Still, she added that her ministry would be looking into the matter from the angle of community welfare as it could impact other social issues.
In response to a reporter who mentioned a local shop may be selling the item, Fatimah said the information should be reported to the Health Ministry and local authorities.
“They can take immediate action once they have the report,” she said.
The Health Ministry’s Food Safety and Quality Division has recently begun its investigation into the “ghost smoke” candies that are said to be freely sold in Sabah towns.
Even more pressing is the fact that the cigarette-like candies are being marketed to school children to the chagrin of parents.
