MIRI: The highly popular What About Kuching Festival better known as WAK will be spreading its wings into this city.

The inaugural WAK Miri Satellite Festival will be held on Aug 1-4 at the iconic Coco Cabana.

WAK Miri welcomes the many creative communities here and the surrounding areas to come and be a part of this exciting festival.

This aligns with Miri’s vision to be a green, smart and the most liveable international resort city, said Mayor Adam Yii during a press conference recently.

Since its inception as a grassroots festival in 2017, What About Kuching (WAK) has evolved into a significant feature in the state’s tourism calendar, drawing an audience of 277,766 in 2023.

This continued growth and success of the WAK Festival prompted Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, to suggest it be expanded to other cities in Sarawak, especially Sibu and Miri.

It features live music performances, sports challenges, arts and crafts exhibitions, engaging children’s programmes, local community showcases, and international professional workshops.
