KUCHING: More education on treating and handling animals is needed to help the public.

Dog trainer, Mikhael Kueh said dog owners and dog lovers are able to utilise the BarkPark in Saradise, here.

“BarkPark has five to ten dogs from a day-to-day basis and parents can bring their children as well.

He also said that the common practice done by dog owners here when the owners are out travelling is to keep their dogs in a confined area.

Therefore, he added that the purpose of BarkPark is to create space for dogs to roam around to help them from a psychological point of view.

“It is healthy and they won’t feel so trapped. We want to create a dog community among dog lovers.

“At the same time, educate children and dog owners on how they should handle their dogs”, he said.

Kueh started having dogs ten to eleven years ago and his first dog was adopted from Sarawak Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA).

“Throughout that time, we actually rescued dogs from the streets”, he said.

Speaking of his time in the United States, he said the culture of owning dogs there and here is different.

He added that dog owners should bring their dogs out and walk them daily and it is not the right practice to allow them to roam around.

As such, he said that having a facility like BarkPark helps to educate and teaches the necessary skill for dog owners to walk their dogs.
