Sarawak’s Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, is widely recognised for his integrity and pragmatic leadership.

He has gained respect for his pivotal role in national reforms and contributions to the state’s development.

Many see him as a steady force in shaping Sarawak’s future, with hopes that his leadership will continue to drive progress and foster investor confidence in the region.

He has demonstrated maturity and openness in engaging with various groups, regardless of political affiliations, to push through essential reforms in our country, such as the Anti-Hopping Law at the federal level. This exemplifies the kind of mature politics that is crucial in today’s political landscape, where good governance should prevail over personal and petty politics. I believe he can continue to embody positive, mature politics — fostering integration rather than division. He can remain a symbol of moderation and tolerance, both in Sarawak and across Malaysia, uniting people regardless of race or religion.

Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar is a highly experienced individual who, before entering politics, was a senior police officer. Throughout his political career, he has held several key positions in government leadership. With such a reputation, he is rightfully appointed as the Governor of Sarawak. He is also a lawyer and politician who has served under several former Prime Ministers. With his vast experience, including his role as a former Speaker of the Senate, we hope he will continue to contribute, especially to Sarawak and Malaysia. May he enjoy continued good health as he leads Sarawak towards progress and prosperity.

Wan Junaidi’s leadership has exemplified dedication to governance, particularly through his focus on Sarawak’s unique needs in areas like legal reforms and environmental sustainability. His ability to tackle complex national issues has shifted perspectives on inclusive governance, strengthening Sarawak as a model for balanced development in Malaysia. As Sarawak’s Head of State, I hope he prioritises social and economic inclusivity for marginalised communities and promotes growth in green energy and technology, positioning Sarawak as a key player in Malaysia’s economy. Furthermore, his efforts to unite diverse communities can reinforce a shared identity among Sarawakians, ensuring Sarawak thrives as a driving force in the nation’s future.

Wan Junaidi’s leadership has significantly influenced governance in Malaysia, particularly regarding the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63). He has worked to address historical grievances and uphold Sarawak’s rights, emphasising the importance of equitable governance and a balanced federation. Looking ahead, there is optimism that he will prioritise the full implementation of MA63 and enhance health and education autonomy, which could greatly benefit Sarawak’s development and foster improved cooperation between state and federal governments.

Given his experience and credibility as a legal practitioner, governance and development in Malaysia appear more assured, as his leadership in these fields has already been proven through several previous successes, particularly in enhancing Malaysia’s political stability.

My hope is that he will elevate the credibility of Sarawak as a developed state across various areas of development. I also hope he can make Sarawak the best state in Malaysia, thereby restoring investor confidence in the country.

DATUK DR MUSTAPHA AHMAD MARICAN

International Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) chairman

I’ve known Wan Junaidi for a long time, and his extensive contributions to national administration can greatly benefit Sarawak’s governance, ensuring a bright future for the state. His leadership has strengthened federal-state relations, boosting Sarawak’s economic growth and overall progress.

We were also involved in the successful mission to rescue 47 Malaysian detainees from a Cambodian prison in 2019, 40 of whom were Sarawakians. This mission, alongside Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, was one of the country’s greatest successes. I hope Wan Junaidi continues to serve Sarawak and that the state remains peaceful and prosperous under his leadership.
