LAWAS: A fugitive involved in several vehicle theft cases in Mukah was arrested by police during a raid on a house in Kampung Sahabat Baru, Merapok here yesterday afternoon.

Lawas District Police chief, DSP Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said a police team carried out the raid at 2.50pm after they saw a man carrying a shotgun and acting in a suspicious manner outside the house.

“During the raid, the police personnel identified themselves and ordered the suspect to discard the shotgun and surrender,” he said.

He said besides the arrest, the police had also seized the shotgun, three cartridges and a

camouflage shirt from the 53-year-old man.

Abang Zainal said further investigation revealed that the suspect, from Lawas, was wanted by the police in Mukah for violating the terms of preventive police supervision.

“The suspect came back here after leaving Mukah two months ago.

“Acting on information received, we carried out a three-day surveillance before raiding the house in Kampung Sahabat Baru,” he said.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 8 of the Firearms Act, 1960.
