MUKAH: The Student Integration Plan for Unity (RIMUP) programme held in conjunction with Chinese New Year at SMK Three Rivers was warmly received by the school community.
The enthusiastic reception was despite the school only having about 5 percent Chinese pupils, said the school’s principal Donny Dahlan.
“We are aware that Sarawak consists of various ethnicities, and because of that, we need to celebrate every festival observed by the communities here.
“Alhamdulillah, this colourful programme received tremendous support, providing an opportunity for other students to learn more about this celebration,” he said.
He said this when speaking at the RIMUP programme in conjunction with the Chinese New Year 2024 celebration at the court of SMK Three Rivers here today (Feb 8).
Meanwhile, the school principal also urged the pupils to strive towards obtaining better academic results in the upcoming school session starting in March.
“We need to identify weaknesses in certain subjects and overall. In addition, pupils also need to make every effort to achieve the status of exemplary students in various aspects,” he said.
At the same time, Donny, along with teachers and invited guests, participated in the Yee Sang tossing during the programme.
During the programme, the crowd also witnessed lion dance performances, dragon dance performances, and dance performances by students and teachers.
Distributions of mandarin oranges to the school community and chocolate snacks to the pupils were also held.
Also present was the school’s parent-teacher association (PTA) chairman Muhamad Nazir Bersiri.
