KUCHING: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Public Complaints Bureau chief and Kota Sentosa branch chairman, Wilfred Yap, has called on residents of the Stampin Resettlement Scheme not to throw rubbish indiscriminately in the drains.
“Such rubbish is not only unsightly but could also clog drains and cause flooding,” he said.
Yap said he was consistently approached by the residents who complained about the poor road conditions and flash floods each time it rained heavily.
The residents had requested for the clearing of rubbish and overgrown weeds and
improvement work to be carried out on the earth drains to prevent flash flooding and waterlogged roads in view of the coming rainy season.
As an interim measure, Yap, had on behalf of the residents, requested Kuching South City Council (MBKS) and the Drainage & Irrigation Department (DID) to take immediate action to resolve the residents’ complaints.
He also appealed to the federal or state government to assist the residents of the resettlement scheme by allocating development funds to solve the poor road conditions and drainage problem.
