SRI AMAN: Snakes have been visiting houses across the state.
The Malaysia Civil Defence Force (APM), Sri Aman District reported responding to 29 cases from January to March of snakes seeking shelter and laying eggs in houses.
“Cases received up to now indicate that snakes like pythons and cobras are often recorded. Based on the cases, the reptiles like to settle in the kitchen areas and less in the bedroom or living room,” said officer-in-charge Captain Siti Huzaimah Ibrahim.
She also said the snakes also seem to prefer chicken coops and cat cages.
“One of the factors causing the increase in the presence of these snakes is the weather. This reptile is escaping the heat and seeking shelter in a cool, moist and secured environment.
“Hence, APM advises the public, especially those who live near bushes, forests, fields, rivers and sewage area to be more alert.
“Besides, ensure all access into the house such like waterways, pipes, drainage pipes and rooftop pipes are blocked or netted.
Siti also advised people to keep the grass around their homes trimmed.
“Most of importantly, check your surrounding and bedding before going to bed. Snakes love the warmth of your blankets and pillows,” she added.
