SARIKEI: About 35,000 people were affected in several areas in Sarikei Division due to water disruption caused by the construction of Pan Borneo Highway on June 14.
The Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) stated that there was a burst on the main water pipe from Bayong Water Treatment Plant caused by the construction work.
Affected areas include Jalan Bayong, main road from Jakar junction to Sebangkoi, roads from Selalang junction to Rumah Moses, the entire Sare area, along Jalan Meruton from Jalan Hock Ming until Baji Junction, Tanjung Manis area, Belawai, Jerijeh, Serdeng, Semalau and Bekakong.
“Also affected are the entire Pakan area, KJD Meradong area, Skim B, along Jalan Bulat from Sungai Deer to Sungai Joh, Kim San Sungai Rusa, Kesa Baron, Jalan On Dian, Jalan Sungai Garan, Jalan Friendship, Jalan Cola and Pakan junction.
“JBALB has requested the highway project contractors to carry out remedial works at an urgent rate to avoid more severe and prolonged water supply disruptions.
“Delivery of water supplies using tanker trucks will also be carried out by JBALB and contractors to the affected areas, especially to schools, hospitals and clinics until the water supply returns to normal,” it said today.
