SIBU: Sibu Water Board (SWB) under the Sarawak Utility Ministry is committed to providing clean and treated water supply in line with the board’s vision of 100 per cent water supply coverage by 2025.

SWB, in a press statement yesterday, said that it takes serious concerns about shortage of water supply and low water pressure in the Pasai Besar area here.

The board had received 66 reports of frequent pipeline problems occurring in various areas, namely Teku, Bahagia Jaya, Quarry, Indah and Rantau Panjang since June 2019.

The water supply problem in these areas was due to broken pipelines and low water pressure, especially during peak times, has aggravated the situation.

“The board has taken immediate action to repair the broken pipe and when frequent pipe breaks occur, it may result in low or no water pressure,” SWB said in response to complaints by residents of the affected area.

The board said that once the repairs are completed, the water supply will recover gradually.

On December 8 last year, following a report received from residents of Teku Pasai, SWB immediately sent its tanker trucks to the area and a prompt action has been made by continuously despatching tank trucks to affected areas, especially in the interior, until water supply is back to normal.

Pipeline installation works, under the ‘Projek Rakyat’ (People’s Project) initiative, along Ling Kai Cheng Road to Teku Pasai is now completed and a new pipeline was used for testing and commissioning purposes from January 11.

The installation of the new pipeline is part of the ongoing effort by the Sarawak Utility Ministry through SBW to increase water pressure for better water supply to the growing number of consumers in Teku, Teku Pasai and Ulu Sg Merah areas.

The community is urged to leave an immediate feedback if there are any issues regarding water supply or pipeline leaks in their area or elsewhere via SBW hotline number (084-216311).
