Utility and Telecommunication Minister Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi has proposed making high-level water storage tanks mandatory for residential areas and development projects.
He said the growing number of residential units and population in certain areas is straining water pressure.”We believe that future housing developments should allocate land for high-level water tanks and reservoirs,” Julaihi told a press conference at the DUN Building today (Nov 18).
He also suggested maintaining the design of houses with rooftop water tanks during the approval process.
“Water supply to any housing estate is crucial and must be considered before approvals are granted,” he added.
Collaborating with relevant ministries and agencies is essential to meet water supply needs.
Additionally, Julaihi asserted plans to merge the Kuching Water Board (KWB), Sibu Water Board (SWB), and LAKU Management Sdn Bhd into a single entity.
The merger aims to improve water supply management efficiency across the state.
The Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) will continue providing water infrastructure in rural areas.
“The Integrated Management Office is evaluating the merger process, and we aim to finalise it soon,” Julaihi said.
