SARATOK: The water capacity for the Kaki Wong Water Treatment Plant will be increased to 60 million litres per day (MLD) to improve and stabilise the supply of treated water.
Utility and Telecommunication Minister Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi said that it would become the main treatment plant in the area, complementing other facilities in Lubau and smaller plants in Maludam, Pusa, Spaoh, and Lichok.
“Currently, the plant produces 30 MLD with 24-hour operation, drawing its water from the Krian River,” Julaihi said during a recent site visit to the plant.
“We have also connected 12,583 metres to users in Saratok, Debak, and Pusa.”
To increase raw water intake from the Krian River, he said that a weir is nearing completion.
The project is funded by the state government, and includes replacing old pipes and upgrading pipe sizes throughout Betong.
In the long term, all treatment plants and pipe networks in Betong will be integrated into the Sarawak water grid system.
