KUCHING: Residents in Sibu Jaya and Eco Garden in Sibu will soon be enjoying normal water supply before the end of July.
Dudong assemblyman Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said he raised the issue and highlighted the plight of residents for the past seven years during the recent State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting.
“The water supply problems which have been plaguing them for the past seven years should not be allowed to happen again. The stress from this issue to the residents of the four-storey low cost flats had been unbearable.
“They have been forced to carry pails of water up several flights of stairs for their daily needs. For Eco Garden residents, they are still not able to apply for their water meters even when they service their bank loans and pay rents monthly, doubling their economic stresses,” he said today.
Tiong pointed out that authorities should not turn a blind eye to these fundamental problems faced by the residents there. The urgent matter must be resolved with well thought out solutions quickly.
“Water and electricity are basic needs of the people. Before approving relevant development plans, government departments must honour the responsibility and obligation to understand whether the utility supplies in the area are sufficient for the planned population.
“Once we have the plan, we must be committed to implementing these plans well and early,” he said.
He shared that he expressed the urgent needs of Sibu Jaya and Eco Garden for stable water supply to Minister of Utilities and Telecommunication Datuk Julaihi Narawi who pledged to resolve the matter as soon as possible.
“I would like to thank the minister for his keen attention on this matter and for the cooperation of the departments involved.
“With the water supply issues resolved, the people will finally be able to live normally,” he added.
