KUCHING: The Waxers Legion from Kuching put on an excellent performance to win the Sarawak Paintball Open 2022 championship.
The tournament was held at St Thomas Secondary School field here in Kuching.
There were three divisions competing for the two-day tournament recently and there were players from West Malaysia, Sabah, Brunei and Thailand.
For Open category, Waxers Legion won the first place after beating Rascal team from Kuala Lumpur while for the third place was won by Beezwaxers
and West Coast Combined took the fourth spot.
As for amateur division, Unknown won the first place with Hornet Waxers in second and Dracone won the third place while Annex took the fourth place.
For the novice division KPK Mech won as champion while second place was won by Team Earthquake, while KMPC took the third spot and fourth place won by K Intikam.
“Through this match, Waxers Legion can gain new experience that will give strength to the team to compete further including outside Sarawak,” said Waxers Legion team manager Mahmud Datuk Ibrahim in a statement yesterday.
Meanwhile, he said, the performance by Waxers Legion players showed that the youth of Sarawak have high competitiveness if given enough exposure.
In this regard, he expressed his appreciation to the organisers and hoped that they would hold more tournaments in Borneo to allow the sport of paintball to continue its popularity.
Meanwhile, competition director Mohd Morshidi Abdullah said, this tournament was the start of paintball sports after the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Therefore, I hope that this sport will continue to grow and be loved by the youth in order to educate the youth to value team spirit and loyalty to friends,” he said.
For the record, this competition was organised by the Mambong Paintball Club based in Padawan.
In addition, this paintball league is scheduled to ‘pent-up’ in the last league in Miri on November.
