KUCHING: Sarawak is on the right track exploring a new economy based on green technology and digitalisation to spur economic growth.
Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud said such a strategy would be able to increase the state’s revenue.
“Well done Sarawak government for its focus on the development of green technology; this has attracted numerous investments to the state while conserving and protecting the environment,” he said.
“I am confident that through the Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, Sarawak will become a developed economy by 2030,” he said.
Taib was speaking at the opening of the first meeting of the second session of the 19th Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) at the DUN Complex here today.
He applauded the Sarawak government’s efforts to increase research and development on the state’s natural resources.
In addition, he said, the carbon research conducted by the Sarawak Biodiversity Centre, is a potential new economic source for Sarawak.
“This will also increase the incomes of the people in Sarawak and groom more talents, especially in the services and health industries,” he added.
“Thus, the people in Sarawak, especially the youth, must improve their knowledge and skills, to be able to compete with others and seize the opportunity,” he said.
Taib also said the Sarawak government’s decision to set up five international schools in the state can produce quality human capital for the future.
