KUCHING: Sarawak is considering to extend the duration of the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sittings in the future.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said this in response to a request from Machan assemblyman Allan Siden Gramong, who emphasised the need for more in-depth discussions on key issues affecting constituencies.

“Last year, we received the request for additional allowances, especially for members of DUN.

“This time, we are looking into the possibility of extending the DUN sitting for the members, and I will leave it to our DUN Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar to look into this matter,” he said in his speech during the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Backbenchers Night, at the Sheraton Hotel on Wednesday (Nov 20).

Earlier, Allan highlighted the importance of extending the sitting sessions, noting that assembly members need more time to thoroughly discuss and debate issues within their constituencies.

“Sometimes, I feel bad for my colleagues (DUN members) who are only given a limited amount of time to ask questions.

“We also want the question-and-answer sessions with the ministers to be extended,” he said.

Allan also expressed confidence in the coalition’s collective strength, emphasising its ability to overcome challenges and achieve their shared vision.

“The road ahead may not always be easy, but with the spirit of ‘one for all and all for one’, we are unstoppable.

“Together, we will continue to uphold the principles that define us and deliver progress for our state,” he said.

The event was attended by Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, Minister in the Premier’s Department Datuk Seri John Sikie Tayai, Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Liwan Lagang, Satok assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki, among others.
