MIRI: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Bekenu election machinery is all geared up for the coming state election due in 2021, said its three-term assemblywoman Rosey Yunus.
“We are ready every day,” she said when met at a non-governmental organisation (NGO) empowerment workshop programme held at a leading hotel here yesterday.
She added that the focus (of the party election machinery) would be on youths’ participation.
“Of course, with proper guidance from the older party members, I believe it would help enlighten them (the youth) on their role and responsibility as our future leaders,” she opined.
Rosey said, as future leaders, it is crucial for the youth to be exposed to the political environment so that they would have a better understanding of leadership.
Asked whether she would defend her seat in the election, Rosey said, “It’s up to the top party leadership to decide on the candidacy”.
In 2006, Rosey won the Bekenu seat under then Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP)-BN ticket with a majority 3,072 votes in a three-cornered fight.
She retained the seat in 2011 with a bigger majority of 3,714 votes against Thony Badak of Sarawak National Party (SNAP) and Dayang Juliana Awang Tambi from Parti Cinta Malaysia.
In 2016, she won with an even bigger majority of 4,789 votes edging three other contenders.
