KUCHING: A weekend of camaraderie on the golf course saw 88 golfers competing in the GPSS DGCC 1st Invitational Team Golf Championship 2024.

The tournament, organised by Golf Persaudaraan Sarawak Semenanjung (GPSS), took place at Damai Golf & Country Club (DGCC) over the weekend-on Saturday (Sept 7) and Sunday (Sept 8).

Tournament Chairman Sukiman Aini noted that the event drew participants from various racial backgrounds in Sarawak, including Malays, Chinese, Ibans, and Bidayuhs, highlighting the spirit of racial unity among the golfers.

He added that three teams from West Malaysia faced significant challenges due to airfare, accommodation, transportation, and entrance fees.

“Alhamdulillah, although this was not easy, each participating team had to contribute an entrance fee of RM2,500,” he told reporters at Damai Golf & Country Club on Sunday.

When asked about the possibility of future editions of the golf tournament, Sukiman expressed optimism.

“Next year, we plan to hold this tournament again, with improved prizes. We hope to increase the champion’s prize from RM10,000 to RM20,000 and attract more teams,” he said.
