Welder fined RM1,500 for inviting man to fistfight

KUCHING: A 26-years-old welder was sentenced to a fine of RM1,500 or two months’ imprisonment by the Magistrate’s Court, here, today, for inviting a man to fight on September 18.

Syarifah Magistrate Fatimah Azura Wan Ali sentenced Patrick Lee after pleading guilty to a charge under Section 506 of the Penal Code which was read in front of him.

According to the charges, he was charged with intentionally making criminal threats against the 36-year-old victim in a residential quarter at about 6pm that day.

According to the facts of the case, during the incident the victim (complainant) who was driving a car near a petrol station on Jalan Datuk Bandar Mustapha was detained by a motorcycle which was being ridden by a couple.

The motorcyclist (accused) then challenged the victim to a fight but the victim did not comply with the accused.

The complainant then continued to leave the gas station area and returned to the residential quarters at Jalan Durian Burung, however, the complainant found the accused trailing him.

When they arrived at the quarters, the accused insisted for a fight but the accused’s wife tried to calm him down so that he would not act as such because he was drunk at that time.

The accused then took a picture of the complainant’s car which belonged to the State Government and stated that he would look for the complainant again.

After the incident, the complainant continued to file a police report for further action and investigation leading to the arrest of the accused the following day after the incident.

The prosecution of the case was handled by Prosecuting Officer Inspector Mohd Adzmei Ahmad while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.
