KUCHING: The Sarawak Teacher’s Union (STU) congratulated the State Education Department and schools across Sarawak for the excellent results in the Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) 2022 exam.
Its president Kullin Djayang said the results showed an increase in cumulative grade point average (CGPA) to 2.75, up 0.04 from 2.71 in STPM 2021.
Furthermore, the latest STPM results recorded 147 students with 4.0 CGPA, which is good compared to 2021, he said.
“All students who have obtained good results in STPM 2022 will continue their studies to the degree level at higher education institutes across the country.
“The certificate itself is on par with the diploma and matriculation levels in other education institutes.
“Therefore, parents should not fear or underestimate the STPM exam; after all, the period to get the certificate only takes three semesters with very cheap funding because it is still in government schools,” said Kullin in a statement today.
On another matter, STU hoped the Malaysian Examination Council (MPM) will not hold the STPM third semester examination at the same time as the opening date of the school term as had happened last year.
Kullin explained that this is to avoid raising problems at schools while in category mode two and three, where STPM students are still sharing the school building with other classes.
“In Sarawak, there are many schools that offer Form 6 classes but only one school is in mode one category while the others are in modes two and three.
“Some of the difficulties that arise include insufficient class blocks due to closures for STPM exams and also quarantine orders.
“Therefore, some classes near the exam block will also be closed, affecting many classes and forcing students to study remotely, in halls, resource centres and science laboratories.
“This situation is very disruptive to the learning sessions of mainstream students,” he said.
In addition, Kullin said Form 6 students during their first semester could not have good learning sessiond as most of the teachers are involved with exam monitoring duties for STPM at other schools.
