KUCHING: Meditel Mall has set up a Community Wellness Centre on the seventh floor of its car park at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).
According to general manager of Meditel Mall Jetson Hoo, the initiative is to promote a healthy lifestyle especially among the hospital staff by undertaking after-work physical activities.
“We hold fitness activities such as ‘Kuching Running Drills,’ organised by BROOKS Sarawak and Revolution Run Borneo, as well as monthly Zumba sessions conducted by the HUS Physiotherapy Department, and many more.
”I encourage the hospital community, the public and fitness enthusiasts to take advantage of this space for the well-being of all Kuching residents,” he said.
He was speaking at the opening ceremony of a Healthy For Life Expo 2024 held at the wellness centre on Tuesday.
Jetson said that the popularity of the Running Drills held at the Civics Centre since May of last year had inspired him to host fitness sessions at Meditel.
Although the programme drew roughly 50 participants each week, he noted that weather conditions frequently interfered with training, particularly during the rainy season.
“After discussions, we decided to move here (to the Meditel rooftop) because it is weatherproof. If it doesn’t rain, we can hold activities on the rooftop, but if it does, we can move to the sixth floor (covered area),” he said.
Jetson said individuals interested should gather at Meditel’s rooftop at 4:30 pm and register on-site.
“Drive your car straight up and park there. All registration will take place on the rooftop, and those interested can expect to pay only RM5 per session for quality instruction from expert trainers,” he added.
