KUCHING: 20 deaf persons were among the 1,800 participants of the We’re Borneons Run at CityONE Megamall yesterday.

Organised by Beam Event Management, the event was concurrently held in both Kuching and Kota Kinabalu; the number of participants in Sabah was 2,400.

The run was divided into three categories, namely, 3km, 5km and 10km and all the runners received medals for their participation.

The flagging off ceremony was graced by Minister of Welfare, Women and Community Wellbeing, Datuk Fatimah Abdullah.

“We are encouraging the disabled to join the run event to show that Borneo (Sabah & Sarawak) has an inclusive society and that everybody can join the event in the spirit of 1Malaysia.

“It is such a good activity to strengthen the relationships between both states. We have a lot of similarities and we use the similarities to enhance our unity,” pointed out Fatimah.
