KUCHING:  Sarawak is prepared to share its comparative advantage in natural resources with others to mitigate and provide solutions to the global climate crisis.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said Sarawak is blessed with abundance of natural resources which the state leverages on to produce green and renewable energy.

In recent years, the state has been actively working and has succeeded in developing renewable and green energy, including hydro, solar, wind, and biomass, from algae following its energy and economic transition policies.

“This is an ambitious dream, but we are eager to share (our comparative advantage) with countries like Singapore to produce green and renewable energy which are sustainable. I know Singapore is facing some problems with energy and space.

“Sarawak has ample space and natural resources for energy whereas Singapore has the brains. So, we must let the brains combine with space and energy for mutual benefit.

“You will not only have industries that are based on green energy, but the products will also be green, and this will be favourable to the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) by banking institutions,” he said.

He was speaking at the Shape the World Summit 2023 gala dinner here last night (June 21).

Abang Johari assured that the state government will facilitate those who are interested in collaborating with Sarawak to mitigate the global climate crisis.

“The global climate crisis will pose problems for all of us. Therefore, we must work together to protect the environment and secure a sustainable future for future generations,” he added.

On the summit, Abang Johari said it is a good platform to bring together different stakeholders to deliberate on the issues faced by the world and to find solutions that will benefit humanity.

“It is not easy to shape the world, but nevertheless it is only appropriate that we come together and deliberate on issues faced by the world. The global climate is bringing us to work together to find solutions and realise the importance of sustainability,” he said.
