KUCHING: Buddhists in Sarawak have been urged to continue to strengthen ties among the people of various races and religions.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government will continue to ensure that the rights, religious freedom and interests of all races are preserved in line with the policy of inclusion under the Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030).

“The establishment of the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR) is part of the efforts to strengthen this policy of inclusion which is not only intended to provide financial assistance but also includes efforts to unite communities of various religions and races in this state,” he said in his Wesak Day message today.

Abang Johari said Wesak Day, which is celebrated tomorrow, is the most important festival of the Buddhist community.

“I would like to take this opportunity to wish a Happy Wesak Day to all Buddhists throughout Sarawak. May this festival bring peace, happiness and prosperity to all its people, especially Buddhists,” he said.
