KUCHING: What About Kuching (WAK), with the tagline ‘By The Community For The Community’ is back for its sixth edition this year, running from Oct 1 to 31.
This the festival that celebrates arts, culture and lifestyle of the creative communities.
The launching ceremony for WAK 2022’s Call for Proposal was attended by Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah at the Waterfront Hotel here yesterday.
Abdul Karim hoped that with such great opportunities at WAK, it will further provide Sarawakians with wider exposure and opportunities and with WAK, it will not be long before Sarawak can boast many more world class standards in the arts and creative industry.
“As WAK grows, I am certain that we will see many international and world class acts being staged under its wings as WAK will offer great opportunities for our local creative individuals to perform alongside established international acts, thereby elevating our own standards in the coming years.
“It has really been refreshing to see the city come together, a true partnership between the public, private sectors and the creative communities to embrace this effort by taking up their respective roles as sponsors, venue providers, collaborators and supporters.
“My ministry is proud to continue supporting WAK as its main sponsor again this year and the years to come,” Abdul Karim said.
Meanwhile, WAK co-director Donald Tan reminded all interested creatives that they will start accepting proposal from yesterday until midday on July 31 this year.
“Several representatives from the few creative communities shared their ideas on what they are hoping to showcase in October and it looks like it will indeed be an exciting WAK2022 come this October.
“It is time for all creative individuals to once again take centre stage come October in celebration of the diverse arts, culture and lifestyle pursuits in Kuching, Sarawak, Borneo and beyond,” Donald added.
Collaborators who are interested to join WAK Festival 2022 can submit their proposals via WAK’s official website.
