MARUDI: Yesterday morning, a 72-year-old grandfather, Sujai Jaree, told his daughter that he wanted to go fishing in front of the express wharf in Marudi with his two grandsons aged 14 and 13.
However, at about 8.30am, the daughter was told by her uncle that her father’s body had been found floating in the Baram River.
Missing were Sujai’s grandsons, identified as Mohd Zafril Wasli, 13, and Mohd Alyeff Ong,14.
A team of firemen led by Marudi’s fire chief, Maureen Sim, were mobilised to the scene to help retrieve Sujai’s body.
Sujai’s remains were discovered at around 7am by members of the public who later alerted the Marudi police for assistance.
The remains were later taken to the Marudi Hospital for a post mortem.
Also seen at the scene was Baram police chief, DSP Gabriel Risut.
“Together with the firemen and members of the public here, we, the police, have mounted a search and rescue operation to find the two boys who are still missing,” said Gabriel.
He added earlier that morning, a police report was lodged by Sujai’s daughter at 5.50am.
Police are investigating to find out what actually happened to Sujai and his grandsons.
