The popular instant messaging app WhatsApp will cease to work on older devices from 1 January.
According to TechRadar, the app makers have confirmed that those who have smartphones with software older than iOS 9 or Android 4.0.3 won’t be able to use the app in the new year.
As long as you have iOS 9 or Android 4.0.3 or above before 1 January, you’ll be safe and retain access to the app.
But this means if you have an iPhone 4 or older, you won’t be able to upgrade to the latest software at all.
This also applies to those who have very old Androids, such as the Samsung Galaxy S2 that was released nearly a decade ago.
How to update your WhatsApp
For iPhone users, head to Settings > General > Software Update.
Android device owners should head to Settings and find a section called About Phone. Depending on the device, you might find it under More Settings.
But older devices aren’t able to upgrade their software beyond a certain point, so WhatsApp will stop altogether for these users.
Those with older devices who want to use WhatsApp will have to upgrade to a new handset altogether. – Agencies
