SIBU: All things politics took a backseat for a demonstration class on how to make the Chinese traditional of ‘zongzi’ or glutinous rice wrapped in bamboo leaves here Saturday.

It was held at Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bukit Assek Service Centre in conjunction with the Dragon Boat Festival which falls on June 22.

Speaking to the media, Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng said the demonstration class was also participated by longhouse folk in his constituency.

“This time we did it a bit differently as we invited the longhouse folk to come and join us to celebrate this Dragon Boat festival.

“This is something quite new in that we hope to promote inter culture exchange as we live in multi racial Sarawak.

“When we have better understanding, we can live together in harmony because we will know one another very well,” he stated.
