MUKAH: A local community leader here strongly supports the idea that a Sarawakian be appointed as a deputy prime minister.
Certainly, kapitan Kang Boon Eong, 55, is not the only individual in Sarawak who wants to see a Sarawakian holding the post of deputy prime minister when the new federal Cabinet is formed.
“Yes, why not,” he said to New Sarawak Tribune today (19 Aug).
Kang, who is involved in the service industry, was commenting on a report on the matter in a local English daily.
He argued that being a partner in the formation of Malaysia in 1963, Sarawak’s rights and interest should be rightly acknowledged and respected.
Kang added that Sarawakians are also equally capable and many of them had become professionals in their own fields including politics.
He said many Sarawakians look forward to see a deputy prime minister from Sarawak in the new federal Cabinet, perhaps in the person of Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, based on speculations on social media and news portal lately.
Nanta is Kapit MP, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) secretary general, as well as former minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs.
