KUCHING: It is
advantageous for Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) to support Tun Dr Mahathir
Mohamad, said political analyst from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak Dr Arnold
Puyok.
He reasoned that it is a good move seeing that Dr Mahathir
is the interim prime minister, meaning he still has some power (although
limited) and influence.
“GPS cannot afford to support the other side which is not
politically strong,” he told New Sarawak Tribune when contacted yesterday.
He said supporting Dr Mahathir would as the process of
negotiating issues related to the state.
“To negotiate in order to get something, you need to go to
the person that has strong influence and in a position of power,” he explained.
When asked why GPS should not support Datuk Seri Anwar
Ibrahim because the party that he is leading, Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), is
wracked by internal conflict.
“PKR is split and Anwar has little power to command it. It
is very uncertain that he still has power and influence in the party.
