SARIKEI: A wildfire burnt through half an acre of an open area by Jalan Repok here following the hot and dry weather over the past few days.
Sarikei Fire and Rescue Department chief Mahmudin Narudin said his team rushed to the scene shortly after receiving an emergency call at 1.31pm.
“The swift action of our members has prevented the fire from spreading to nearby areas.
“It took us three minutes to completely extinguish the fire. We also did a follow-up to avoid recurring fires,” he told reporters.
Mahmudin added there were no injuries or property damage.
The cause of the incident is still under investigation.
“In this regard, I would like to remind the public not to carry out any open burning to prevent further incidents,” he added.
