KUCHING: The demise of Dr Mohammad Hatta Mohamad Ramlee is a great loss not only to the Forest Department of Sarawak (FDS) but also to the state, said FDS director Hamden Mohamad.

“We lost a good officer and an expert in orangutan. He had served at the department’s Gazette and Conservation Division and held a Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) in the study of primates.

“He was a specialist not only to FDS but Sarawak generally,” he said when contacted today.

The late Mohammad Hatta was killed when he was hit by a motorcycle while crossing the road at Jalan Kulas here on Tuesday.

He was later pronounced dead at the Sarawak General Hospital’s (SGH) Emergency and Trauma Department at 8.11pm due to head injuries.
