PADAWAN: Puncak Borneo MP Datuk Willie Mongin is hopeful more funds for native customary rights (NCR) land surveying work will be provided for in Budget 2023.

The Deputy Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister said the state government has constraints in giving grants to rural residents, especially the Dayak community who have a lot of such traditional land.

“Hence, I called on the Federal government to allocate a large and sufficient amount of funds for this purpose.

“In addition, I also appealed that the Federal government look at the infrastructure in the state which is falling behind.

“The states of Sarawak and Sabah also need to be given due attention so that development, maintenance and repair work can be carried out,” he said after officiating at the Puncak Borneo Merdeka programme at Teng Bukap multipurpose hall on Saturday (Sept 10).

Willie added that he wished to see the rehabilitation and repair of dilapidated schools in Sarawak to be expedited.

“Educational institutions are very important for our generation to learn.

“If they have a good education, it is inevitable that we will have a quality society in terms of academics and then produce quality human capital for the future of the country,” he said.

Budget 2023 which was initially planned to be tabled on Oct 28 has been brought forward to Oct 7.

On the same note, Willie said the proposed new secondary school at Puncak Borneo has been approved.

“A sighting of the land for the location is underway but the proposed location would be at Lot 122 near Kampung Bayur.

“I hope this project gets support from the State and Federal governments to realise this plan for the prosperity of the people,” he added.

The new school construction project is expected to cost around RM40 to RM50 million, excluding the cost of the land.
