KUCHING: The project to build nine new telecommunications towers at Puncak Borneo was approved before Pakatan Harapan (PH) took over the Federal government.

Hence the claim by Puncak Borneo MP Willie Mongin that he had brought the project is wrong, said Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh yesterday.

According to Miro, based on information taken from Sacofa Sdn Bhd, the construction of the towers has been planned and implemented over the last two years.

The towers are located in Kampung Timurang, Kampung Subang, Kampung Tringgus, Kampung Senah Rayang, Kampung Jambu, Kampung Sebemban and Kampung Munggu Kopi.

“Willie’s claim is ridiculous, and looks more like an attempt to belittle the efforts of others, especially the assemblyman in the area,” he said.

Willie was quoted in a news report that he managed to distribute funds through the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to build nine new telecommunications towers at Puncak Borneo.

He also claimed that site testing has been carried out and it is now a matter of waiting for Redtone telecommunication company to install radio equipment and Sesco to install the meter.

Miro said the Letter of Agreement (LOA) for the site was given on December 27, 2017.

Based on information from Sacofa, he said the site was confirmed between Feb 5 and Feb 28 last year.

“I hope the tower construction can be speeded up so that the people in Puncak Borneo can enjoy fast internet connection.”
