KUCHING: Sarawak athletes have been told to go all out for glory in the coming Malaysia Games (SUKMA) and make Sarawak proud.

Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar expressed confidence of Sarawak’s success and ability to host the biggest sports event in Malaysia.

“SUKMA is a platform to develop young talents in various sporting events. This is an opportunity for the youths of Sarawak to showcase their  potential, talent and excellence in sports,” he said in his opening address at the 19th Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting here today.

Wan Junaidi said he was honoured that Sarawak was given the responsibility to host the 21st edition of the  SUKMA.

“To the Sarawak contingent, fight with a tremendous spirit of sportsmanship and prove that young Sarawakian talents are capable of performing at national and international levels,” he said.

He urged all parties involved in the Games to work together and cooperate to ensure success of the event.

Sarawak will host the 21st edition of the SUKMA from Aug 17 to Aug 24 and will have 488 events in 37 sports.

It will be held in Kuching, Samarahan, Miri, Sibu, Mukah, Bintulu, Serian, Sri Aman and Betong.
