Come 31 December, 2021, the 3G network as we know it will cease to exist as it will be officially switched off. The 3G networks era in Malaysia is ending in line with the Government’s unveiling of the National Digital Infrastructure Plan or JENDELA (Jalinan Digital Negara).

JENDELA is envisioned to spur Malaysia into the ‘next normal’, with CELCOM leading the way to smoother connections in the digital world and advancing societies for the generations to come. Planned for implementation under the 12th Malaysia Plan (2021–2025), JENDELA will lay the foundation for comprehensive and high-quality broadband coverage facilities, whilst preparing the country for the transition towards 5G technology.

Through the JENDELA initiative, hundreds of new mobile sites will be constructed across the country – to support the speedier and smoother connection offered by the 4G network coverage. Among the improvements expected is an increase in population coverage of up to 96.9%, with broadband speeds increasing up to 35Mbps from 26Mbps. For Sabah and Sarawak, which currently has relatively limited 4G network coverage, the upgrading exercise will bring myriad improvements and advancements.

Benefits for Consumers

Ever experienced or had to endure poor connections, or have your attempts at downloading documents, movies and music fail one too many times? The bad experiences in contending with buffering while downloading videos or enjoying music streaming will soon be a thing of the past. 4G connectivity means movie time and relaxing with music streaming will be smooth sailing from here on in.

And for gamers, the never-ending pursuit to level up will become so much easier. In a nutshell, the 4G network will ensure better connectivity and connections with less time wasted, thereby improving one’s quality of lifestyle.

Through it all, CELCOM will be at the forefront, providing vast opportunities to consumers during the network migration period. Among the improvements for consumers is a faster and better network, and a seamless and hassle-free switchover process. Rest assured that by switching to 4G, consumers will ultimately benefit in the long run, while at the same time playing a key role in fortifying Malaysia to become a more advanced, thriving and competitive nation in the future.

Heralding a new era in Education

The global Covid-19 pandemic has taken a heavy toll on so many communities, and students everywhere have not been spared, too.

In addressing the needs of the current education ecosystem, the Government introduced home-based teaching and learning (Pengajaran dan Pembelajaran di Rumah (PdPR) last year. By leveraging Celcom’s 4G network, students will be able to experience uninterrupted and greater connection to learning sites and web resources sites.

Platforms like Google Meet and Google Classroom, among others, will make learning easier in spite of the pandemic. Likewise, educators too will be able to bring their lessons to the students with greater connectivity offered by the 4G network. PdPR will become an important medium of support for face-to-face schooling.

Business as Usual

For business, SME owners can take advantage of various platforms like Zoom, Webex, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet to experience the world of e-commerce and innovate online services to further their business opportunities. The 4G network will also open up new e-commerce opportunities and promote productivity across the board.

In light of all these much-needed changes, Celcom would like to encourage all 3G consumers to switch over to 4G in order to make the most of the improvements and enhancements.

In order to make switching over smooth and seamless for consumers, Celcom is pleased to offer a variety of customized Postpaid and Prepaid device bundle plans.
