KUCHING: The Kuching Surimas Fans of Art, Dance, and Music Mid-Autumn Festival at Plaza Merdeka Mall recently concluded its lantern making competition, with the nine winners creating lanterns that depicted a peaceful and multiracial Sarawak.   

According to Datuk Sim Kiang Chiok, the event was held from Sept 22 to Oct 1 in collaboration with Kuching Association of Talent Development and Welfare of Special Needs (Katsn).

First place was won by Liew Thai Chong, second place was Wilson Nyam, third place was Ling Chun Yu, while the consolation prizes went to Nyam Kee Guan and Ho Wee Ching.

“Kuching Surimas Fans of Art,Dance and Music Association with Plaza Merdeka Mall organised the Mid-Autumn Festival to promote tradition, culture and arts activities together with Katsn with gifted art exhibition, performance and various competitions such as lantern making, mooncake making, singing, colouring and cheongsam competitions. 

“The event was held successfully over 10 days at Plaza Merdeka and was closed with results of the lantern making competition.

“The organising associations would like to thank all the  sponsors,  participants, volunteers, the public and the parents for their support for the special children and young adults, and congratulate all the winners in our various competitions,” Sim said.

The festival held various activities and competitions to foster social interaction and unity in diversity.
