KUCHING: Sarawak Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah welcomes the Shared Prosperity Vision (WKB) 2030 proposed by the Pakatan Harapan (PH) federal government, as long as it is beneficial to Sarawak.
He was commenting on Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali’s remarks in the Dewan Rakyat recently, that the federal government would identify economic hotspots in Sarawak and Sabah under WKB to reduce the development gap between the two states and Malaya.
By identifying the hotspots, the federal government would ensure that economic development not only focused on certain regions but on the two states as well according to their strengths and uniqueness.
The proposed sectors for Sarawak would be eco-tourism, renewable energy, high-tech agriculture and husbandry, commodity economy and downstream products.
Abdul Karim said if Azmin was able to identify these hotspots, “if it is something good, why not we be supportive of this also.”
“I would support anything that is good for Sarawak. I believe all the people of Sarawak would be supportive also.
“If it is something good, why not? We should be supportive of it also. Not just because we are of different parties and government, anything that PH proposed we have to oppose.
“If it’s something good for the state, which could promote the state and develop certain areas, we would be very supportive, I mean that is the role of the federal government anyway,” he told reporters after officiating at the Kuala Lumpur Drama Festival Sarawak Version at Unimas yesterday.
