KUCHING: Sarawak recorded one death from the coronavirus (Covid-19) yesterday, bringing the state’s total to 14 deaths.
The latest victim is a 47-year-old woman from Kuching.
She started having cough and fever on April 2 and was admitted to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) Kuching on April 8, two days later (April 10) she was diagnosed positive for Covid-19.
She passed away on April 12 at 7.36am, and the cause of the infection is under investigation.
State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in its daily update on Covid-19 yesterday, said seven new Covid-19 positive cases were recorded bringing the total number to 341 to date. All the seven cases are being treated at SGH.
Additionally, there are 185 new cases of Person Under Investigation (PUI) reported as of yesterday. This brings the total number of PUI cases to 2,525. Of these, 2,091 cases were tested negative and 93 are still awaiting laboratory results.
Of the new PUI cases, 156 were recorded in Kuching district, Samarahan (13), Bau (seven), Serian and Miri – three each, while Betong, Kapit and Bintulu each recorded one case.
Sarawak recorded 97.1 per cent compliance to the movement control order (MCO) yesterday. Seventeen individuals were detained for defying the MCO between 8am Saturday and 8am Sunday.
Nine of them were arrested in Miri, two each in Sibu, Kuching and Padawan while Dalat and Tatau each recorded one arrest.
