BINTULU: Narcotics police have arrested five locals on Wednesday (Apr 3) including a woman for their alleged involvement in a drug distribution activity.

Bintulu police chief, Supt Nixon Joshua Ali said that the suspects, aged between 21 and 58, were picked up in Kampung Baru.

In addition, police also seized two plastic packets containing 136g of suspected marijuana from them.

“The seized drugs were intended for distribution around Bintulu, which can cater to about 136 users.

“All of them are being investigated under Section 39A (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides for imprisonment and caning, upon conviction,” he said.

Preliminary urine test found that one of the suspects tested positive for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), and will be investigated under Section 15 (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Meanwhile, the others tested negative for drugs.

Nixon stated these arrests were part of continuous efforts to combat drug abuse and prevent criminal activities in Bintulu.
